Rangers and Rangers Reach Honoured with KidsAbility Butterfly Award

Kitchener, ON – The Kitchener Rangers and Rangers Reach have been recognized by KidsAbility Foundation as recipients of the 2026 Elaine Ormton Outstanding Supporter Butterfly Award, celebrating 15 years of partnership and support for children and families across the community.

The award was presented Tuesday evening at KidsAbility Foundation’s annual Butterfly Awards, which recognizes donors, volunteers, and community partners whose contributions help KidsAbility provide specialized pediatric rehabilitation and developmental services to children, youth, and families.

Named in honour of longtime KidsAbility volunteer and former Foundation Board Chair Elaine Ormston, the Outstanding Supporter Butterfly Award recognizes individuals and organizations that have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to KidsAbility and the families it serves.

Over the past 15 years, the Rangers and Rangers Reach have supported KidsAbility through fundraising, community engagement and initiatives designed to raise awareness of the organization and its impact through Waterloo Region.

That partnership has included a $100,000 contribution towards KidsAbility Kitchener location, helping support a space where local children can develop their physical abilities through therapy and play.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Rangers and Rangers Reach were Joe Birch, Chief Operating Officer and Governor of the Kitchener Rangers; Don Fraser, Chair of Kitchener Rangers Board of Directors; and Tim Jackson Board Chair of Rangers Reach.

“Rangers hockey is more than what happens on the ice. It’s about tradition, connection and ensuring everyone in the region feels part of the Rangers family.” – Joe Birch, Chief Operating Officer and Governor of the Kitchener Rangers

The recognition also reflects continued generosity of Rangers fans and supporters who help make the work of Rangers Reach possible. Through that support, the organization is able to give back to initiatives and organizations making a meaningful difference throughout the community.

“While their contributions have taken different forms, they share a common purpose: a deep belief in the potential of every child and a genuine commitment to helping families in our community thrive.”- Elaine Ormston, longtime KidsAbility volunteer and former Foundation Board Chair

KidsAbility has supported more than 22,000 children, youth and families over the past year through direct services, community programs and partnerships. Community and donor support helps the organization expand access to services, invest in specialized equipment and spaces, and continue finding new ways to support families.

The Kitchener Rangers and Rangers Reach are proud to have worked alongside KidsAbility for the past 15 years and look forward to continuing a partnership focused on creating opportunities and making a positive impact for children and families in our community.
