Ivan Tennant Memorial Scholarships include three awards as part of our BIPOC initiative
For 20 years the Ivan Tennant Scholarship has provided grants to both Kitchener Rangers Alumni and Waterloo Region High School graduates that are attending post-secondary institutions in Canada, the United States and Europe.
In 2004, the Rangers announced that all scholarships would be made in the name of Ivan Tennant, who spent a lifetime combining hockey and education. Ivan was the Kitchener Rangers Educational Consultant for 20 years and played a key role in establishing the OHL’s Education Consultants Committee. In 2021, administration of the scholarships was assumed by the Kitchener Rangers Community Fund, Rangers Reach.
Since inception, more than $359,000 in scholarships in honour of Ivan Tennant have been presented.
Because provincial capacity restrictions implemented in late December 2021 caused the cancellation our planned celebration of these recipients at a Rangers game we were unable to honour them in person.
However, we are today happy to announce the awarding of over $10,000 in scholarships to 14 recipients. In continuing our commitment to the Rangers Reach and Kitchener Rangers BIPOC Programs, three of the 14 scholarships were awarded to BIPOC community members.
This year’s scholarship recipients attend a variety of schools including Bishop’s University, Canadore College, Conestoga College, Fanshawe College, University of Guelph, University of Waterloo, Western University, and Wilfrid Laurier University
This year’s recipients are:
